America's Oldest Wine Trail
Keuka Lake is where the Finger Lakes wine revolution began. In 1958, Dr. Konstantin Frank proved that European vinifera grapes could thrive in upstate New York — and the region has never looked back. Today, the Keuka Lake Wine Trail is the oldest wine trail in the United States, and its Y-shaped shores are lined with some of the most celebrated producers in the eastern wine world.
Hammondsport — named "Coolest Small Town in America" — anchors the south end with a remarkable density of wineries, breweries, and distilleries. The east side runs through Dundee and Penn Yan, while the west side climbs through Branchport toward some of the region's most storied vineyards. The wines here are diverse: world-class Rieslings, elegant Cabernet Franc, rare Georgian varietals like Saperavi, and traditional-method sparkling wines that rival Champagne.
Beyond wine, Keuka Lake has become a craft beverage destination — with farm breweries, a nationally awarded cidery, and distilleries on the "Spirit of Keuka" trail. Looking for a place to stay while you explore? Check out our Keuka Lake lodging guide.
