Finger Lakes Wine Country
Seneca Lake is the crown jewel of New York's Finger Lakes wine region. At 38 miles long and 618 feet deep, it is the largest Finger Lake by volume — and its unique depth creates a microclimate that extends the growing season and produces some of the finest cool-climate wines in the world.
The lake is home to over 40 wineries, with the renowned Seneca Lake Wine Trail connecting many of them along scenic Routes 14 and 414. The region is celebrated for its Rieslings — often compared to the best of Germany and Alsace — along with outstanding Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines. Many wineries pair their tastings with farm-to-table restaurants, live music, and sweeping vineyard views.
Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or just discovering the Finger Lakes, a day on the Seneca Lake wine trail is an unforgettable experience. The west side (Route 14) offers the densest concentration of stops, while the east side (Route 414) — known for its warmer "Banana Belt" microclimate — rewards visitors with world-class wines and fewer crowds.
